Winter Storm Warning, Weather Advisory issued in multiple counties including Tompkins, Cortland, Tioga

UPDATE 12/23: The Winter Weather Advisory has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning in Tompkins, Tioga, and Broome Counties. Additional snow will bring accumulation totals between 5 and 10 inches. Meteorologists say to plan for slippery road conditions. The warning remains in effect until 4 p.m.

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Winter weather could be headed to the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for December 23 in much of the Southern Tier and Central New York, including Tompkins, Cortland, and Tioga Counties.

Meteorologists say ice and up to six inches of snow are possible, beginning early Tuesday. It could lead to a slippery commute to and from work.

The advisory will be active until 4 p.m. in Tompkins, Cortland, Tioga, Schuyler, Chemung, Chenango, Otsego, Delaware, Sullivan, and Broome Counties.

In Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Cayuga Counties, the advisory is extended through 7 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
