OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) — There will soon be no more roosters in the Village of Owego.

In a 6-1 vote, the Village of Owego Board of Trustees recently passed legislation that bans the keeping of roosters within village limits. Trustee Laura Spencer was the only board member to vote no.

According to the legislation, roosters that were kept prior to the law’s adoption must be removed. The 90-day phaseout period for existing roosters began on Aug. 17.

Anyone who violates the law faces a maximum $250 fine.
