ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The cold weather season is approaching, and Tompkins County is prepared.

The Code Blue shelter at 227 Cherry St. in Ithaca opens for the season on Nov. 15. Much like last year, it’ll be operated by Volunteers of America.

“Our priority is making sure people have a warm place to stay and access to support during the winter,” Department of Social Services Director Brittanie Earle said. We have worked closely with Volunteers of America to preserve core services.”

The shelter, which is open to anyone seeking a warm place on cold days and nights, includes a warming center during the daytime, an overnight shelter, showers, 24/7 staffing, and food.

The Code Blue season ends Apr. 15, 2027.
