ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The Center of Government project remains a focus for Tompkins County lawmakers.

Over the past several months, legislators have considered different options for the building, which is expected to be constructed on North Tioga Street in Ithaca. On Tuesday, legislators agreed to stick with the original $50 million plan from last June.

Legislator Deborah Dawson said the county has “wasted a colossal amount of time” looking at other options. Her colleague, Legislator Greg Mezey, said the conversations have been productive.

“These last eight months were not a waste,” Mezey said. “I think it helped us understand what our options were, what our staff needs were, what our community needs were, what our appetite for spending was.”

The county has been working with HOLT Architects on the project.
