TIOGA, NY (607NewsNow) — A Southern Tier town no longer has a constable.

Lawmakers in Tioga have eliminated the position. The decision was made unanimously during the Tioga Town Board meeting on Dec. 29.

Gerald Pierce had been serving as the town’s constable.

Elsewhere in the region, voters in Cortland decided in November 2024 to abolish the two positions of constable. That abolishment took effect on Jan. 1.
