OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – Tioga County is looking to increase connectivity between two municipalities.

The Tioga County Industrial Development Agency (TCIDA) has been awarded $450,000 from the state to conduct a pre-engineering study for a potential rail trail.

Crews will evaluate technical requirements and alignment options to construct a path connecting Newark Valley and Berkshire along an active freight rail corridor. State officials say it would expand outdoor recreation and wellness opportunities while supporting local economic development.

The funding comes from the NYS Office of Parks, Preservation, and Historic Preservation’s Environmental Protection Fund Grants Program.
