CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office warns that a new scam is going around.

Sheriff Mark Helms says they’ve received reports of people posing as an out-of-town paving business making random stops within the county and offering discounted rates to homes and businesses.

The group allegedly does so without disclosing the price. Then, once the work is done, they charge an “abnormally high amount.”

Helms urges residents and businesses to be cautious of anyone who approaches them for unsolicited work.

The Sheriff asks anyone who encounters the suspects to contact the Cortland County 9-1-1- Center at (607) 753-3311.
