ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Racker Center is starting a new tradition.

On August 29, the first annual Racker Day in the Park will take place at Stewart Park in Ithaca.

The event will feature appearances by Cornell hockey teams, live music, games, sensory-friendly activities, and more. The Racker Center is also sponsoring free carousel rides all day for the event. The carousel runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Racker Day in the Park runs from noon to 3 p.m.

Moving forward, officials say the celebration is replacing the annual Racker Rivals Big Red hockey game in even-numbered years, but the game at Lynah Rink will still take place in odd-numbered years. The hockey game has raised more than $1.4 million for Racker’s early childhood programs in its 12 years.
