GROTON, NY (607NewsNow) — Police are investigating a threat made at a school in Groton.

Jr.-Sr. High School Principal Brian Kavanagh says a student verbally threatened to hurt another student with a weapon. Authorities didn’t find any weapons on the student or on school grounds.

“Because of the immediate actions taken by our faculty and students, there is no active threat on our campus,” Kavanagh stated in a letter to parents.

“We remain committed to maintaining the safety of all of our students, staff and faculty, and are taking all precautionary measures necessary for everyone’s well-being. We are very appreciative that our message to students this year of “If you see something, say something” was followed. When discussing this incident with your students, please help reinforce this message,” Kavanagh added.

In addition, a lockdown drill that occurred at the school today was unrelated. According to Principal Kavanagh, “This was a drill that was scheduled weeks ago with Groton PD.”
