On September 26, the State began mailing its first-ever inflation refund checks to eligible New Yorkers.
Depending on marital status, dependent status, and wages earned in 2023, you could receive between $150 and $400. Governor Kathy Hochul first floated the idea in December 2024.
Hochul says approximately 8.2 million New Yorkers will receive payments, and soon.
The governor is also warning residents that there has been an uptick in scams associated with the payments. Scammers are using text messages, voice messages, emails and direct mail claiming New Yorkers must submit accurate payment information in order to receive a payment, but this is false.
“New Yorkers do not have to do anything to receive an inflation refund check outside of meeting the eligibility requirements,” said Hochul. “With scams targeting the state’s inflation refund initiative, let me be clear: the Tax Department and the IRS do not call or text individuals for personal information. My administration urges New Yorkers to remain vigilant and report these scams to the Tax Department to protect yourself from being a victim.”
Hochul says mailings are not based on location or last name, and there is no specific delivery schedule.
Only the first round of checks began being printed and mailed last week. Payments are scheduled to show up from October through November.
