ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Winners of New York’s first-ever Advancing Collaboration for High-impact Initiatives for Economic Visions & Expansion (ACHIEVE) competition have been chosen.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday, Dec. 23 that in the Southern Tier, Ithaca was selected to receive $38 million toward the development of Southworks, a mixed-use project that stretches across 95 acres of a former factory on S. Aurora St.

“I am proud to celebrate the $38,000,000 ACHIEVE award to Ithaca for the Southworks mixed use development project,” Ithaca Mayor Robert Cantelmo said. “This crucial state investment will transform and revitalize a long-blighted industrial site and build a new neighborhood for our residents.”

A total of $150 million was awarded Tuesday through New York’s Regional Economic Development Council’s inaugural initiative to 4 regions.

“I remain grateful for everyone involved in advancing the work of the Regional Economic Development Councils. Their dedication to this ongoing public-private effort has had a transformational impact in every corner of the state,” Hochul said. “Congratulations to four regions, named the inaugural winners of the ACHIEVE competition. The focused investments laid out in the locally designed plans will create investment opportunities that will help to build an enduring and successful future for all New Yorkers.”
