GENEVA, NY (607NewsNow) – A Geneva City lawmaker awaits his day in court.

On January 12, Councilman Ahmad Whitfield was reportedly granted pre-trial release.

The 45-year-old was arrested last week on allegations of possessing and selling cocaine in Geneva. According to Fingerlakes1.com, the case involves about an ounce of cocaine. It was initially reported that the sale involved fentanyl, but no mention of the drug appeared in court paperwork.

Mayor Jim Cecere has asked Whitfield to consider resigning. Whitfield’s next court date has not yet been scheduled.
