DANBY, NY (607NewsNow) — Some energy-heavy buildings aren’t welcome in Danby.

Definitions for cyber mining facilities and data centers are being added to the town’s zoning code. The Danby Town Board approved the changes on April 7.

Danby Town Supervisor Joel Gagnon said the move makes it “absolutely clear” the facilities aren’t allowed. He said Danby isn’t a likely location for data centers anyway, because the town’s access to power is “constrained.”

Similar zoning code changes are under consideration in Ulysses.
