CORTLANDVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) — A Cortland County town is mulling a moratorium.

Cortlandville is considering adopting a one-year ban on the development of data centers. The moratorium would give the town more time to study potential impacts.

The Cortlandville Planning Board will discuss the ban tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Raymond G. Thorpe Municipal Building. The group will then share its recommendation with the Cortlandville Town Board.

In June, an 18-month ban on data centers and commercial cryptocurrency mining operations was approved in Caroline. The Town of Dryden permanently banned the development of data centers and cryptocurrency facilities in February.
