CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – Cortland Fire Department investigators have ruled the cause of a fire accidental.

On February 28th, firefighters were called to a home in the city’s Fifth Ward just before 2:30 p.m. after a neighbor saw smoke coming from the structure.

Crews located a small blaze on the exterior of the building near an electric meter and used a small extinguisher to put it out. After an investigation, it was determined that the fire originated on the outside of the building and had not extended inside.

National Grid was called in to disconnect the electrical service to the home.  No injuries were reported, and all units were back in service in under two hours.
