ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Cornell will see a new artificial turf field.

The polarizing project received final approval from the Town of Ithaca’s Planning Board on May 6. Big Red field hockey players will compete on the field, though it remains unclear when the facility will be ready.

In a statement released in January, Cornell Athletics Director Dr. Nicki Moore said approval challenges had delayed the project’s timeline.

Environmental group Zero Waste Ithaca expressed health concerns throughout the approval process.
