ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — More details are emerging about a proposed Jewish community center at Cornell.

The building would be on University Avenue across from Alice Cook House. It would have large windows, though most of the building would be made of terracotta.

Architect Lisa Ferreira, who works for the education design firm Goody Clancy, said the first floor would be buzzing with foot traffic.

“That’s the entrance, it’s the lounge, it’s where all of the action is,” she said. “The building becomes more private as you go up.”

Ferreira said the second floor would have classrooms and the third floor would have space for meals.

The project has received praise from Ithaca’s Planning & Development Board. Emily Petrina, who chairs the board, called the proposed building “beautiful.”
