ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — State Senator Lea Webb is reacting to a decision from the Supreme Court.

A majority of the highest court in the US ruled Thursday that colleges cannot consider race when accepting applications. Webb called the decision ‘regressive,’ adding that it represents “the undoing of decades of work to ensure more equitable access” to higher education. Webb also says the end of affirmation action for colleges is “deeply disappointing.”

Today, the Supreme Court issued a regressive decision to end #AffirmativeAction in higher education, reversing a policy that opened doors for generations of students by helping create access to a quality education regardless of race or background.

Cornell President Martha Pollack also issued a statement Thursday after the Supreme Court announced their decision. Pollack said the university was founded on the principles of diversity and inclusion, and that Cornell will continue to be a welcoming community with an unwavering adherence to their core values.
