ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Plans are advancing to improve the Tompkins County Jail.

Legislators agreed to have the Facilities and Infrastructure Committee come up with a timeline and cost estimates for construction. Legislator Rich John says preparation should be thorough.

“The planning process for the jail is pretty complicated,” he says. “It has to be comprehensive; you do not want to try to make changes late in the process.”

John adds the goal is to have the jail completed by 2030.
