ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — State funding could help reduce gun crimes in Tompkins County.

The county is working with Ithaca Police to apply for a grant from the Division of Criminal Justice Services. It would be for about $380,000.

Sheriff Derek Osborne says the application process is ongoing.

“We are continuing to manage the grant through the county at this point,” Osborne says. “Developing a task force, and coming up with a plan on how to best utilize the funds moving forward to lower violent crime – in not just the City of Ithaca but in Tompkins County as a whole.”

Authorities have until Friday to apply.
