ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — One Ithaca leader is confused by all the stolen bicycles in the Jungle.

Alderperson George McGonigal says there’s a “huge pile” of bikes at the homeless encampment.

“There’s like little kids’ bicycles,” he says. “Nobody’s going to be able to ride a little kid’s bicycle. And that little kid who got that bike for their birthday is heartbroken because somebody stole their bike, and for what purpose?”

Tompkins County Legislator Rich John recently told WHCU there’s also many stolen shopping carts in the Jungle.
