Groton Junior Firefighter Camp a hit with youth

GROTON, N.Y. (WHCU) – One Tompkins County leader hopes the next generation of firefighters has been inspired.

The Groton Fire Department hosted its sixth Junior Firefighter Camp last week. Legislator Lee Shurtleff says the turnout for the 3-day event was outstanding.

Shurtleff adds the success of the camp would not be possible without financial support for youth programming.

The Ithaca Tompkins International Airport gave a big last-minute contribution to the event.

Shurtleff says half a dozen fire departments and other organizations participated in the camp. The Groton Fire Department sent a special thanks to McLean Fire and Rescue for helping with calls while the camp was running.
