Cornell professor Haynes receives Gold Medal from Astronomical Society of the Pacific

Ithaca, NY (WHCU) – Martha P. Haynes, Cornell’s Goldwin Smith Professor of Astronomy, was recently awarded the 2019 Catherine Wolfe Bruce Gold Medal from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.

The honor’s presented annually to a professional astronomer in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding achievement and contributions to astrophysics research. Previous Cornell recipients include Edwin Salpeter, Hans Bethe and Martin Harwit.

Haynes was chosen based on her contributions to the understanding of the composition, interactions, distribution, and evolution of galaxies in the universe.
